Week 2

Last week I learned how to properly sew on a button (leaving a space between the Botton and fabric so it doesn't pull on the button hole and so there are no loose threads). It was a great time to learn this trick because this week I got a men's XL blazer from goodwill and made it into a two piece. I had to rearrange the buttons on the skirt and I used the method I had learned in my internship to do it!

This week I was able to sit in during a fitting and I got to watch how it worked and how the coat was adjusted after the fitting. I have been able to experience a little of what it is like to be a fashion designer– the good and the stressful– but this was the first time I experienced designer to client interactions and I think this is very important part of my learning (now I have a more well rounded experience).

I also got a lot done this week on my own. I finished the blazer set (above), I got an oversized collard shirt from goodwill as well and played around with cinching it in with different techniques, and I also found a skirt from goodwill and it's fabric was super pretty but I didn't care for the skirt itself, so I am working on making a dress out of it currently.

I couldn't find any comments on my blog (navigating blogger is not really my strong suit) but I will keep my eye out for them. My goals for next week are to work with the serger and create a specific dress out of some legging I got from goodwill. I'm very excited!

  1. Wow, Zoe! This blazer turned two-piece set is SO great. I love the asymmetrical lines and the big blousy sleeves. I am excited to see how you alter the other thrift stores items you bought. You might consider creating before and after photos so that we can see how you are changing up the items you buy!

  5. I second what Krystal said--I'd love to see the before and after. The angles on the skirt are great, especially where the pocket falls. Great work!
